Last week, Allyson did a great recap of the study by Blackbaud, NTEN and Common Knowledge and reported that over 92% of nonprofit organizations have a presence on at least one social networking site, but most raise very little money through their social activity.
In fact, 87% have raised under $1000 on Facebook since they began using the platform. |
This week I want to focus on what’s holding nonprofit organizations back and how are the top 1% succeeding? It’s clear from the data below that three big things contribute to the lack of fundraising success: |
Let’s take a closer look … |
George Eastman : Where has his Kodak gone? ... George Eastman (July 12, 1854 – March 14, 1932) was an American innovator and entrepreneur who founded the Eastman Kodak Company and invented roll film, helping to bring photography to the mainstream. Roll film was also the basis for the invention of motion picture film in 1888 by the world's first filmmakers Eadward Muybridge and Louis Le Prince, and a few years later by their followers Léon Bouly, Thomas Edison, the Lumière Brothers and Georges Méliès. || http://bit.ly/yPq6AP

"There is an eloquence in true enthusiasm that is not to be doubted." ~ Washington Irving, "The Adventure Of The German Student"

___
According to his page on Wikipedia, Washington Irving made his literary debut in 1802 with a series of observational letters to the Morning Chronicle, written under the pseudonym Jonathan Oldstyle. After moving to England for the family business in 1815, he achieved international fame with the publication of The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. in 1819. He continued to publish regularly—and almost always successfully—throughout his life, and completed a five-volume biography of George Washington just eight months before his death, at age 76, in Tarrytown, New York.

Marking a most significant 40th anniversary

Now at age 63, I realize and fully appreciate that (like many my age) my adult lifetime has seen great advances (and huge expenditures) to fight the battle against cancer. || http://bit.ly/tlDrN2
What I did not realize 40 years ago near the start of my adult life was that I would personally benefit by the success of the medical community in waging this fight. I am a survivor of mantle cell lymphoma since 2006 and received a cutting-edge stem-cell transplant from an unrelated donor in 2007 as well as an advanced form of radiation (TomoTherapy) in 2009 to successfully bring remission, not once, but twice from the disease. "Susan Boyle redeems us from superficiality," ~ Melanie Reid : Times Online |
@K : http://bit.ly/sUhFfY ||
Susan Magdalane Boyle (born 1 April 1961) is a Scottish singer who came to international public attention when she appeared as a contestant on the TV programme Britain's Got Talent on 11 April 2009, singing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables. Her first album was released in November 2009 and debuted as the number one best-selling CD on charts around the globe.
Global interest in Boyle was triggered by the contrast between her powerful mezzo-soprano voice and her plain appearance on stage. The juxtaposition of the audience's first impression of her, with the standing ovation she received during and after her performance, led to an international media and internet response. Within nine days of the audition, videos of Boyle—from the show, various interviews and her 1999 rendition of "Cry Me a River"—had been watched over 100 million times. Her audition video has been viewed on the internet several hundred million times. || alt@LINK : http://bit.ly/syqEiM |
Angel fans like me can learn to even appreciate some of the crosstown rival Dodgers like Matt Kemp and salute his charitable work for City of Hope, the Southern California cancer research and treatment center that saved my life. || http://bit.ly/vJAdMg
Matthew Ryan "Matt" Kemp (born September 23, 1984, in Midwest City, Oklahoma) is a Major League Baseball outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kemp was drafted by the Dodgers in the 6th round of the 2003 draft and made his major league debut in 2006. In 2011, Kemp led the National League in runs scored (115), total bases (353), OPS+ (171), WAR (10.0), home runs (39), and runs batted in (115). Additionally, he became the first player to finish in the top two in both home runs and steals since Hank Aaron in 1963. || http://bit.ly/vh7jbQ : http://bit.ly/rE6Fmg

"Is (this) the coolest photograph ever or what? Matt Kemp, you know. With him, surprised and grateful for the visit, is my friend John Elder.
"John is on the comeback trail – not to mention the civilian 60-day DL – after what we all hope is a life-saving bone marrow transplant, courtesy of City of Hope hospital in Duarte. He was sitting around, minding his own business this morning, wishing only for some boxscores to peruse in the paper, when in walks the Dodgers' center fielder." |

Politics
This title of this post and the clips below are prompted by a certain curiosity about how our divided political nation can show harmony and friendship, even strong and lasting relationships, despite great political divisions. As an entertaining metaphor about that reality, the film THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU may be worth another viewing. || http://bit.ly/rTgywK
